i hate it when characters are forced to keep quiet because its convenient for the plot. why keep your mouth shut when there are practically almost no downsides and just exist to lead into a dramatic arc where the characters are up against time to tell them or something like that. GENERIC
why doesnt she open up about the blackmailing and leave the family. it makes the hole situation much easier for her. there are no downsides. she can focus on studying magic without interuption and the family knows, which can have a positive or a slight negative impact. but i can already predict that the family wouldnt antagonize her about using magic
