The father is ridiculous and suspicious. Not only does he prevent her from learning to become successor (which would help in the case of if ellua decides he doesn’t want the title or if the count and ellua pass away again) but he hinders her ability to learn anything that is common for a noble, not even allowing her to learn how to dance unless persuaded. The count doesn’t act like a father, he treats her like a nuisance instead, we haven’t seen one bit of affection from him at all. He just acts like a resentful old man who hates his kid for not being how he wants them to be.
don’t forget that her father told her teachers not to teach her anything but the basics and any time she asked for more education or responsibility to gain experience he said no. He didn’t even want her to learn etiquette and was pissed when she got a teacher
On a deeper level, i just feel like the count just doesnt view his daughter as his daughter. I have not once seen him show affection to her. Rather, All he does is criticise her because she doesnt act how he wants her to act. Perhaps he views her as an obstacle for the other twin? perhaps he only wanted one child and the other is unwanted? Perhaps shes just decor for him?
I think the reason why her dad is angry is kinda justified..🤔 Mia even explained the reason herself. At home and in front of everyone else she only reads novels and doesn’t have the attention span to read factual books and study materials. Her focus for these past few years also have clearly leaned towards etiquette and socialising. Let’s also not forget that the Count is a busy man, he’s not even home often so he’s only seen a surface level of what his daughter actually does and likely hears about her from other people like the butler and her tutors.
He knows she’s ambitious but claims that she’s “incompetent”. But how can he really say that? She manages the mansion affairs that includes the financial budget, she educated herself in gaining better social etiquette to gain better connections for the future, she may be reading novels however they are novels taken from THE BASEMENT— the ever secret compartment of knowledge of the Plox family! Surely someone should have connected the dots by now that they may also have some hidden meaning inside its pages since it was special enough to be kept in there.
I’m guessing one of the Plox ancestors also had a problem with keeping up with abstract facts and thus they wrote those facts down in a story form to help a future successor(s) easily catch up with all the information 🤔
While I don’t like her dad is absolutely correct she is incapable but ambitious. I still don’t understand why she wants to be his successor especially after getting it the first time around. She lacks complete character growth.
