Although ellua can catch on quickly it seems, the count could have at least given kalmia a chance. The two are training to be successor afterall, the ultimate choice of who will succeed can be after they’ve trained as surely the information provided would be useful even if one of them doesn’t succeed the count. Like if ellua becomes count, kalmia will surely have gained knowledge to help her in running the duchy or pursue a path of her own making. Same goes for if kalmia became count because ellua would have knowledge to help him later in life. Seeing as he has a knack for languages, he could pursue a career in translation or foreign affairs, etc.
Well, I love how they both have different talents, he is good at languages and has the bright innocence of someone who hasn’t experienced much hardship and she is diligent, cautious and mature (bc she is a 33 year old who has experienced the hardships of life)
And suddenly I am blaming the Count less and less for choosing Ellua (talent and good personality), but still cannot understand why he had to be so cruel about. At least marry her off to a good family, right?
