I believe that the dragons had hidden away their hatchlings exactly where they went to seal the gate between their two worlds. It was supposed to be a gateway between the dragon land and I can’t exactly remember which country but they returned as they had forgotten to seal the door when they escaped to White. During that time, someone went in and stole a hatchling. Since we are aware of the future now, it’s more than likely the Emperor and First Prince (or someone in their camp) stole the child.
