Abuse in families is cyclical and hard to break, so I’m not even a little surprised. Doesn’t excuse what he did, but having been through it, I do know that people can change. Recognizing the abuse is the first step, but there’s many, many hard steps after that. I think what I always think when I read these “Y’all need therapy.” If I ever isekai, I’m gonna probably try to put everyone in counseling, lol.
