I think there usually is at least some affection and care that naturally exists between parent and child for no other reason than the “wow” factor of “Oh my God, this is another ENTIRE PERSON I HELPED CREATE,” at least based on the expressions that seem to be fairly common among first time parents holding their newborns for the first time
