Duke wants to avenge his wife and the rest of the people killed in the rebels attack so many years ago and the Marquise has the same goal so they formed a union in the guise of a marriage to fool the rebels and throw them off guard. It makes sense why the parents wouldn’t reveal these plans even if their children are of age coz they’re still just their kids, what sane parent ropes their kids into their plans for revenge? Even if Millian has rights to revenge for his mother, it’s not something he desires (we all know boy-o only aspiration is marrying his fake sister) and neither does Preah.
The fake marriage has to stop Millian from messing up the plan to finish off the rebels. That is the main point for which the couple works undercover and unfortunately, their children are in second place. Thanks, Hari.

They got “married” so that the rebels believed that the Duke had moved on from the death of his first wife (if you recall many people spread rumors saying that she was not strong enough to stand beside the Duke and disliked her), so to help the Marquise got “married” to the Duke so that they could gather enough evidence to locate and exterminate the rebels. I know what else you are thinking: “Why can’t they tell the children?” They can’t tell them because Millian is in love with Preah and wishes to marry her. IF their children were to get married before the rebel forces were squashed then they will investigate about the “marriage” and it will be uncovered that the Duke and the Marquis live separate lives in private, it wouldn’t take too much to realize that the rebellion had been found out so they will destroy the evidence and move (as said in this chapter).
13-years of hardcore investigating, uncovering who the rebels were and where their base was will all be for not if everything is uncovered. Please keep that in mind. ALL OF THIS, is to find and punish the rebels (The Duke wishes to find out who had killed his first wife) If they had not gotten “married” in the first place, do you really think that the Duke or the Marquis would have objected to Millian and Preah getting married? No.

i only hate the parents because they didn’t tell their kids about their plan, I understand telling them when they’re at bit older but they are already 26. I mean, preah is literally the only one who sees them as family. She’s gonna be heartbroken when she learns that everything was fake. I don’t know, I just think it’s a bit cruel. Especially when there’s the possibility they’ll divorce after they destroy the rebels. And plus, Millian is a strong knight and preah handles spirits, can’t their children help avenge the death of the duke’s wife?
So, I agree with your comment but I also disagree because it’s still foolish to lie to your child about the reason why you got remarried in the first place. Preah believes the parents are in love and that her brother sees her as family, it’s what she’s been wanting. And to just tell her that the one thing she’s been wanting all her life is just for publicity is dumb and cruel. Maybe im just being butthurt and too critical but i don’t think lying to your children is the best option, that’s all.
