I don’t think she is “toxic”. I think she is hurt, betrayed, and still learning and growing from her past mistakes.
She lived a life for herself, and was betrayed by everyone but her daughter.
Now, she does not trust others, and fear let’s her lose trust easily. In addition, the only thing, the only person she is striving to do right by, has recently been hurt, and is now possibly being used — the very thing she fell to in her last life.
Of course she is going to react poorly.
Should she have talked to her daughter? Perhaps. But maybe that would have put her in more danger.
Growth is not linear. Having compassion for characters who are struggling to grow is worthwhile when reading stories. It makes the pay off of growth matter more to you, the reader.
I hate that re-incarnated woman. Toxic during your first life, toxic during the second. You didn’t event tey to speak with you daughter, no, you just became aggressive
