It’s not that hard to understand, Benjamin is the head of the family, instead of putting a stop to Katarina’s abuse, demanding the slave contract or giving FL a high knight status seeing as she is probably good with a sword. He allows her to remain in a low position where Katarina can abuse her, so Benjamin can be seen as a savior from FL perspective. Benjamin also made a deal with Katarina, she becomes empress and he gets FL. HOWEVER ML did not make a deal with Katarina, threatened her to get the contract and gave FL a royal knight status.
