I agree with @changemyname I 7nderstamd that the Halsted are descendants of the 4 winged angel (the betrayed arcangel), the royals are descendants of the human that betrayed and took the angel’s sword (that’s why it is in the royal palace) and the demon that corrupted the human and cursed Halsted is Astarod, afraid of the sword that can kill him made the human steal it and afraid of the power of the angel casted the curse so they never leave the north.
(dunno if it is like this, just my conclusion so far)
