This story is one of those misunderstanding ones where the gentle and kind ML don’t know how nobility works.. and what’s going on in his mansion and is a dumb man but loves FL, the only reason he won’t approach is because her instinctively pushing him away makes him feel she hates him.
The FL is very pathetic and spineless woman, typical mistress mistreated by her servants like if u can’t deal with servants when in power, you are…. really spineless.
ML thinks FL don’t like him FL thinks ML don’t like him, but in fact ML loves her.

I am somewhat allergic to male-dominated thinking (unfortunately widely held in many societies world-wide today) that searches for mistakes with women or even young girls, but excuses dangerous asocial behaviour of men, normalizing pejorative, mentally traumatizing and sometimes even violent actions against women.
This “gentle and kind” ML did not care for his own wife, he actually didn’t even treat her like a human being but rather like furniture. He knows very well how horrible neglect and ignorance feels, but still did exactly the same things to her that once hurt him… This is inexcusable.
The FL was put down from very early on by her own family. Victims like that need a lot of help until they can muster the inner strength to stand up to abusers.
What if it was a teenage boy who was neglected by his caretakers and abused by servants? Would you call HIM “pathetic” too if he does not stand up against the bullying (while well knowing that those in power in the household could not care less and would probably not help him in any way)?

I dislike the beginning of this story – female lead married via contract, but is completely neglected by the cold male lead (again the overly cliché battle-experienced black-haired unfeeling and often arrogant duke that should NEVER be normalized as a potential love interest) and even tormented by the servants as well as looked down on by society.
As a background-story we are told that this has gone on for years. Her own family does not help in any way, instead demands of her to “produce” an heir – with a husband who’s mostly absent 🙁
One day the male lead returns, the female lead gets influenced with an aphrodisiac (agent) and he starts to take advantage of her se*ually too now on top of still not caring about her horrible living circumstances (like getting fed rotten food and other actually life-endangering stuff that is so often dangerously irresponsibly downplayed in manhwas).
At this point I was dropping it.
