Yk those shows where ppl bully and abuse the victim bc they are blood related to someone who is arrested for a criminal act and is all over the news. And the victim gets blame and treated horrible as if they had done those crimes when they are just blood related to them?

Mate, even if she’d, like, killed his dog or w/e, it doesn’t excuse what he’s doing to her.
A backstory can explain someone’s actions but that doesn’t mean we can’t judge them for what they’ve done.
He’s abusive and controlling and generally unpleasant, we can say all these things without knowing that his mommy never kissed his booboos or w/e
Okay, I’m going to keep it 💯 with you guys as someone who speed ran this novel after reading these couple chapters.
1. The story while frustrating is some of the best portrayal of trauma I’ve seen in a minute
In that I would be aware of a couple of things:
Namely: you are going to get frustrated and angry and want to blame someone but the story has a blessedly balanced portrayal of casualties on both fronts and it DOES NOT pull punches.
2. You will feel bad for snap assumptions made on characters behavior- before getting the full scope of what they are dealing with
Multiple times within the read I had to take a break to cry (get Kleenex I’m being so fr rn) the novel made me question myself- really made me internalized how I view others suffering in relation to my own.
I’m not going to tell you there’s some sort of relief for the characters because honestly it isn’t that simple- but holy shit this novel had me in a choke hold.
If this isn’t your kind of read because it gets REALLY dark, like I need to take another Ativan kind of dark- maybe sit this one out. I have a cat that mercifully kept me company throughout the read but I realize some may not be as fortunate 😭😭😭😭
@tiatyot She wants to leave but in order to do that she needs support and there is no support for her. She goes to the guy in France she will likely be used by them. She runs away she will be caught. If the people recognize her while she is out they will likely kill her. She is literally in a cage with no bars.
