Ptsd doesn’t work like that. You don’t get a choice on what you see or don’t. I was in the army. Trust me. It’s not something you do on purpose. He’s most likely reliving both the trama of his friends dying and her trying to self exit.

The real issue here is that Heiner couldn’t see anything positive and ended up dragging Annette into the same despair he was drowning in. Just because someone’s life is a living hell doesn’t give them the right to destroy another person’s life. His PTSD doesn’t justify his actions, and I’m sorry, but I can’t excuse that. People with PTSD can still make choices. I understand that Heiner is suffering, but Annette didn’t do anything wrong other than being ‘born and raised’ naive. Hurt people hurt people, yes, but that doesn’t make it right.
