Trauma here,trauma there,trauma everywhere,so heart wrenching

@Vivis paws, they are together but not married. It’s more about them accepting each other’s flaws and learning to live with them. No children since Annette became barren after her miscarriage, which is tragic, but overall, I’d say it’s a bittersweet yet somewhat okay ending.

oh i replied in the wrong comment xD my bad

For heaven’s sake! Why can’t he just believe her for once? Communication won’t work well for this guy since he never once believed her. Even if I knew how the novel ended this shit still irked me. So egotistical

Ptsd doesn’t work like that. You don’t get a choice on what you see or don’t. I was in the army. Trust me. It’s not something you do on purpose. He’s most likely reliving both the trama of his friends dying and her trying to self exit.
charcasm
@Einherra Yes, I understand. However, we should also consider Annette’s perspective. The woman was forced to believe that she was responsible for everyone’s misery. The real issue here is that Heiner couldn’t see anything positive and ended up dragging Annette into the same despair he was drowning in. Just because someone’s life is a living hell doesn’t give them the right to destroy another person’s life. His PTSD doesn’t justify his actions, and I’m sorry, but I can’t excuse that. People with PTSD can still make choices. I understand that Heiner is suffering, but Annette didn’t do anything wrong other than being ‘born and raised’ naive. Hurt people hurt people, yes, but that doesn’t make it right.
charcasm
I’m sorry to hear about your trauma, but Heiner literally mentally abused Annette. He planted the belief in her mind that she was a useless woman with no significance. With that, I just can’t.
charcasm
While I understand that PTSD can cause overwhelming flashbacks and emotional turmoil, it’s important to recognize that it doesn’t give someone a free pass to abuse others. Suffering from trauma doesn’t absolve someone of accountability for their actions, especially when those actions cause harm. Heiner’s behavior, though likely influenced by his past, still involved actively abusing Annette. PTSD may explain his emotional distress, but it doesn’t justify mental abuse. People with PTSD can work to manage their responses, and that includes being accountable for how they treat others.
