He’s an idiot. Oh no what a surprise that a woman you never exchanged one word with and idolized and made into a saint and a martyr wasn’t actually an angel and was instead a human being. He knew she was his daughter what in the world made him think that she wouldn’t have some of his traits or beliefs? In what world did he think a sheltered Noble would know anything about the horrors of war? Take accountability? She doesn’t know you bud. She doesn’t owe you anything. War is just a concept to her and she only knows what she has been told. The whole reason he loved and idolized her was because she was this untouchable Paragon of noble virtue and then he gets upset when he meets her and speaks to her and she speaks and thinks like a noble? The song honestly just makes me hate him more. It’s borderline incel behavior.
It’s awful what he went through. I agree he should have brought down the monarchy. None of this justifies his abuse towards his wife.
I think I’m starting to understand his perspective now, especially considering how their first interaction went. he was triggered by her words, given the trauma he endured for her. it’s hard to blame the FML, though, since she’s clueless about how the world works.
his trauma has definitely changed his character and thinking. he was already unstable, but just worsened after what he went through. he sees her as selfish, which is true from his point of view, but it’s not entirely her fault. she might not even realise her selfishness because of how she was raised. he sacrificed himself and his friends literally for her, enduring all that torment just to reach her once the suffering ended.
i’m not justifying his actions toward her—they’re still wrong, and he could have handled things better. howeverr.. his recent trauma has completely altered his character and mindset.
like in the previous chapter, when he said, “what am I doing with my life?” it’s clear he’s lost and letting his personal feelings overwhelm him. it’s not something he can easily control, but he could have approached the situation better, knowing she doesn’t understand anything beyond her privileged life. he took it too far and literally completely broke her, now he regrets it.
i hope they both improve their character and heal slowly. and maybe their relationship as well.🥲
I can see how that interaction incited his hatred. Here, Annette does seem just like the Marquis. I have to wonder if Annette would have really reflected and not stood by her father, understanding him or making excuses for him, if she didn’t fall in love with Heiner who she then found out actually secretly hated her all this time.
Sigh… As a person who now living in the war driven country, I can understand his pain….
I can also understand FL pov too. She was a sheltered flower. How could she know? There is no TV or internet in that era. Even in this era where you can find information easily, there are people like FL who ignorant about the pain of other people suffering even they’re living in the same country. You won’t feel the pain of being burn unless you’re burn……
