You guys are hating on my boy too much. If you really take a moment to think about it he is absolutely clueless to the fact that his wife isn’t well. I think the main reason for this is probably cuz he’s never known how to be affectionate. If we are to think of it in how the story describes it heiners goal was to obtain annate but when he gets it prematurely he gets drunk off her love. All in all he has no idea how she feels and never took the time to understand her. My speculation on why he is so mean is that this is his vengeance for unreciprocated love when he was a child getting brutally beat. Even though this is silly, he too has a lot of built up trauma eventually creating what he is today.

They don’t understand because they’ve never felt it before. Being through as much as she has I honestly feel for her. Suicide is quite LITERALLY her ONLY way to achieve her freedom from this psycho. He locks her up and torments her and makes her miserable turning her from a cheerful innocent young lady to someone who just wants to die. finding freedom in death is such a sad thing, and I don’t agree with the way she’s going about it all, but her case is different. Who could possibly in their right mind could possibly live the way she’s being forced to live and remain happy? I hope she finds peace whether it be from her death or from Ansgar saving her. Maybe she could learn to be happy again.
