When this story started, I liked it a lot, especially the somehow unusual art, the cool female lead and the more accurate historical background.
However, after the male lead proposed (in a stupid manner, yes, but he didn’t even get a chance to correct himself), the storyline went downhill in my opinion.
Problem is: the female lead clearly liked the male lead, they would have been a great couple, and she knows it. But she still rejected him and even refused to talk to him for a long time – even though her life was getting harder and harder.
I do understand that she wants to be self-dependent – even though just working was still not enough in those times to prevent old-age poverty, especially in times where countless female tutors were searching for employment and had to endure harrasment and bad conditions in their employer’s households…
However, marrying the male lead wouldn’t even mean she had to refrain from doing some work and getting to be proud of it? She could have both!
Additionally, hints of bad past experiences are dropped throughout the story – but if one (!) rejection or betrayal would stop everyone of us from giving better potential partners a chance, most of us would end up single for life, no?
