cuz lowkey i was just reading the whole dang chapter like
“is it that hard just to say ‘he’s my nephew actually but thats srsly a big secret’?”
tho i get that his parents and bro are his number 1 trigger but like, you dont need to explain a lot for it to make sense. of course damien would be in a better position if he was recognized as a son rather than a nephew in this dumb nepotism driven society :/ she wouldn’t have to know all the creepy and gross incest stuff, just that hugh adopted him as a son to avoid causing trouble for damien :/
oh well. im ngl im getting a bit exhausted with this story… i recognize its well done and the misunderstandings are logically based (eg, lucia’s misunderstanding this chapter certainly makes sense to reach with the limited information she’s provided with) but i think my issue with this story is i personally never liked lucia that much?
she’s not a bad character or a bad person, im just not that interested in her. im not super big on her biggest hang up (infertility) because i dont really like how it frames women as ‘useless’ if they cant have children (even though i recognize that the narrative doesn’t support this as fact and its moreso that lucia as an individual just really wants kids). idk, personal preference wise she kinda grates on me sometimes. The Damien arc was a huge relief for me because i was able to see her just do her best and achieve some stuff while giving Damien the affection that he absolutely deserves. But now we’re returning straight back to her infertility angst and like… idk, i personally just don’t find it engaging and it grates on me. I was really hoping the whole Damien thing would help her get over that but i suppose it is more realistic that it didnt
on that note, i found her fixation on damien meeting the birth mom to be also pretty annoying. again, it fits with her characterization so it’s not a bad choice from a writing standpoint but it does add to me finding her unlikable to me. When meeting a person who doesn’t have their birth mother or father in their life, usually its for a good reason (death or that person is garbage and should be kept away from the child). I’ve always disliked the assumption that a birth parent is a necessity considering how many garbage birth parents exist on this planet :/ the narrative itself is pretty clear about this as well, given how horrible Lucia’s father is and Hugh’s parents were. But idk, Lucia’s fixations aren’t my cup of tea is what I’m getting at
(also seriously dreading that gross doctor getting his gross incest plan off the ground. it makes it so much worse that Damien is a child and this gross doctor is already planning to hook him up with his significantly younger half sister… child grooming much???? ughhhh and everytime Lucia worries about fertility that mysterious creep gets one step closer to achieving his child-grooming ambitions to use children like cattle to maintain some over-hyped bloodline)
anyway I’ll prolly keep reading because im still invested in the plot and the characters but ugh. my personal fondness for lucia was never the highest and its dwindling a bit :/

If I remember correctly, it wasn’t just a secret from those around him so that Demian could inherit his title without problems, but I think he wanted to keep it a secret from Vivian in case she and Demian didn’t get along. However, it’s ridiculous now because Hugh CLEARLY saw how much the two love each other to the point where Demian wishes to not only graduate early but also go after a coveted position in his academy AND gain enough power to protect Vivian should Hugh ever die. That shows just how much he cares for her and the fact that Vivian wanted to show off her stepson and show that she sees him as her true son should have been reason enough to tell her the truth!
