Yah this is true… They wear fancy dresses, attend parties, and has really cool victorian houses but they dont have a bathroom. They throw their shit in the window. They just use perfume to mask their smell which makes it worst. I always thought about this when i read historical manga but in mangas they actually take a bath haha. But in reality their bathhouse is like a community pool and they dont change the water or clean it. The water itself is so disgusting errkkk..

No, it was in good tone to not bathe. It was a form of mortification of the flesh, to show how religious you are. There was a lady that was proud that she didn’t wash herself for 13 years. Also, they believed that if you bathe too much, you will get ill.

you… you do know that even ye olde times did have hygiene products, right? sure they thought dipping your whole body in water was dangerous, but they had surfactants and soap and ways of getting grease out of your hair and all of that. they just leaned towards sponge baths and dry powder soaps where the risk of hypothermia was lower. you’d scrub like hell with a cloth not unlike the sugar scrubs of modern day

That garden party is just living with OCD in the modern world, lol.
Oh, you’re making my sandwich while wearing the gloves you were just handling cash with?
You just took out the trash? And now you are touching literally every appliance in the kitchen?

Ever since I learned about all the things that happened at the palace of Versailles, my interest in european history-fantasy genres dropped to absolute rock bottom😷🤮🤢

Actually, every time I see a woman getting isekaied, I cannot stop wondering of how she will manage during “the special time of the month”? I mean, how about painkillers, pads, chocolate ….

I think, from what I’ve been reading based off of curiosity and googling stuff and watching people who do authentically historical stuff, the only things I can truly think of being an issue is BO and maybe bad breath if like the world building was accurate.
Vikings had soap and apparently bathed super regularly.
The “powdered wig” things make me think they are going with like 18th century stuff for that here and from what I’ve learned they applied a shampooing technique of pomade and powder. The stuff would have like essential oils to prevent lice and everything. It’s actually quite fascinating when you research hygiene from back then. They even like did more along the lines of sponge baths daily as opposed to actual bathing.
Apparently the clothing they wore actually helped too. Linen under everything that was changed like daily which soaked up sweat and skin oils and so outer garments could be worn more than once and not get dirty that way.
Only true unhygienic thing is about hand washing. People didn’t really know germs were a thing and that was the major issue.
As for the promotion of soap… if it were truly accurate they wouldn’t really need to promote it. Poor people probably just made their own using animal fat and lye. I know my mom and dad told of my grandma and like great grandma doing that and we aren’t a rich family by any means. Also, like mentioned, vikings had soap like a thousand years ago.
Sorry for rant, just had to say it.
Historically people just had a different way of being hygienic and it would be the world building of writer that would cause otherwise.
