Probably because ultimately it was the duchess who was kept instead of thrown away. Despite everything including her seeing other men while resisting the duke and winding up in the attic to freeze and be beaten til she “submits”, the duke still chose the duchess over lurica. Not only that, but lurica seems to had fallen for the fake noble guy and so the big reveal that he was to kill her under the orders of duke and that the duchess was correct afterall probably stun all the more. The duchess may seem like a easier target as well since she doesn’t have much power, in the eyes of those unbeknownst to the situation, so killing her serves as to hurt the duke who chose the duchess while also eliminate the person who got her into a situation of being killed in her eyes. Tho, really, lurica has herself to blame since she willing took risks so these are the her consequences.
I can’t understand Lurica/Lyrica whatever, she knows she’s been played and treated like trash so why is that the Duchess’s fault? As the closest confidant to garbage husband, she knows almost all of Brienne’s suffering, having even played a major role in it, yet she still decides Brienne is the one she should kill and not “the duke”, like ?????
