I don’t really get the whole “I refuse to give up the crown” trope. Unless you’re going to be killed once the former king dies you’re likely going to get a great retirement package as a royal, especially if you’ve ever birthed a successor. Even here, I doubt Hakan would let the former queen live in poverty. He’d probably still give her tons of assets and money and I’m sure she’d still have some political power so why not just be supportive of the next queen and axe them if they’re evil?
