Welp, the snake like bastard just gets worse and worse, huh? Freaking brainwashing the emperor, likely using the emperor’s grief over the loss of the empress as a sort of method to latch the magic on, particularly since the emperor would be in a vulnerable mindset thus likely not being as capable of resisting the magic, especially when the idea of bringing back the love of his life is held over his head. The reason behind this theory as to how the magic can work despite the royal bloodline being naturally resistant is cuz manipulators irl tend to target the vulnerable and also magic, in rpg terms, tends to rely on stats such as intelligence, wisdon, and willpower. Now focusing on the willpower part, with the emperor grieving, his willpower probably dampened (and willpower can likely also be seen as a stat for magic resistance) to where he was in a all time low, and I’m guessing before he could come to terms and decide to hold onto his infant daughter, the snake like guy likely swooped in and, using the the emperor’s state of mind to his advance, whispered pretty words and lulled the emperor into trusting him enough to make a vow on the late empress’s name and made to say things about make believe revival items to the emperor to cause those wars. Heck, maybe the guy is even slowly erasing the emperor’s memories to slowly turn him into a mindless puppet (seeing as the emperor did wonder how he could forget his wife’s words). Tho the emperor likely also being driven mad by such as he clung to anything for him to see or hear his wife again, since he immediately clung to ladya, asking if she can hear her mother and how, so he could hopefully still speak with his wife again. Sorta like (I’m sorta a paranormal fan) in at least one pretty known haunted house (forgot the name of it), a man searched desperately for a way to speak to his deceased sister’s spirit, but kept being conned (I forget what happened to him in the end, it’s been a bit)
