We’re only seeing the story of the novel as a *novel*, not someone’s life. Adeline made those decisions in her first life, made NEW decisions in her second life and is now living differently because of that. In her first life she was a scared girl who didn’t know what she was doing and found someone that helped support her through it in Cedric. Their love was real but in her second life she took what she learned from him, STILL dated him but probably didn’t need to rely on him like she did in her first life. That doesn’t mean their love wasn’t real, their circumstances are just different the second time around.
I love how both Dillon and Adeline are both really complicated and nuanced FLs it feels like the author is really taking their agency into account which is so nice.
Look guys, the previous adelina and Cedric were in love. All love is a cultivation of circumstance and character. Adelina was a poor girl in an abusive family and Cedric was her light so she fell in love. It’s not as if it wasn’t real. It was simply all she had. This adelina clawed her way to contentment, she had other things she could be happy about and she still tried to love him again . Sometimes things just don’t work out. You don’t need a man for happiness but for the previous adelina she could only rely on a man. It’s not about need, it’s about circumstance. You take whatever happiness you get from wherever it comes from and you love it’s source. It’s simply human nature. This adelina found it elsewhere and evidently this Cedric didn’t find it in this adelina.
I guess she’s talking about the original Dillan. However, this feels like a pretty cheap way to get out of the novel plot. “They didn’t actually have true love after all despite him reciting the exact same words to Dillan as he did to Adeline, so it’s okay after all.” Some happily ever after.
