W..wtf.. so not only is the romance fast paced as fuck with any potential falling for each other being off scene and also easy as fuck despite the characters’ backgrounds (peasant girl working as a maid to pay for her family and has a need to be strictly professional at her workplace, especially since her bosses are the people in charge of the kingdom and could literally have her and and her family killed if she so much as looked at them funny vs royal prince and army commander of monstrous strength with lack of a verbal filter who keeps try to get with the maid by saying things like he likes her face and wants to sleep with her instead of, oh idk.. fucking wooing her? Showing her that he likes her for more than a pretty face and a hole for him to fill? That he isn’t some perverted womanizer and is actually in love with her?). I get the liking for these dynamics in stories but everything is rushed it feels like and we don’t get to really see the romance, the falling for one another. We instead see a sudden crush on one another when they saw each other briefly with the only thing to leave a positive effect would be the kindness to the maid while everything else is her doing her job. We see what is like a cat and mouse chase in the form of a boss and employee with neither making it clear why to reject or why to accept each other, not communicating and instead fumbling around like a bunch of kids. And also yeah.. the maid’s actions are very much contradictory to the background given prior to theo’s appearance. She was the hard working, following protocol to order, professional maid who rose high rank in her job due to her professionalism and hard work and suddenly when theo pops up, she is taking unreasonable risks by not only sniffing his shirt, instigating the princess to fight him (ik she didn’t mean to but trying to manipulate the princess into thinking she was being given a hard time is not the way she should have done things, that is far too risky if the princess were to realize she was lied to), and literally KISSING THE PRINCE IN HIS SLEEP?! Like that kiss literally counts as assault and not only that but, no matter how much he has stated he wants her, there has been no “go ahead” or anything to show him she accepts him because she keeps running yet coming back but never actually talking. I get it’s hard to talk to your crush, especially in a case like this. But she needs to make up her mind and stick to her decisions and also seriously refrain from temptations such as kissing an unconscious drunk.
Prince isn’t off the hook either because she has repeatedly made it clear she doesn’t want to do this and yet he continues. Sure, she is tempted but so would any other person in front of a handsome royal. He keeps treating it like a game of cat and mouse instead of taking her no for answer, repeatedly seemingly testing her and pressuring her for an answer instead of leaving her be and letting her decide on her own without him looming over her, looking to embarrass her.
I’ll keep reading. But I am pissed about how things have gone so far. In romance, communication is needed, understanding is needing, knowing more than appearances and reactions is needed. This is just a clusterfuck and a half.
