@SilverSlime this story isnt exactly historically accurate. most people assume it was ankles, but many thing point to just showing skin in general was considered scandalous.
I read a book once that said ankles back then were usually covered by long dresses but would show if the skirt was lifted a bit, so there are a lot of cases of ankles showing and being considered indecent while there are less cases of things like shoulders being exposed because the fabric was more secure around those areas.
This was all i could remember from the book, and it only documents fashion and gossip from that specific time, so it probably wouldn’t work for a fictional story like this. Also, yes, fashion over the years has been strange, dare i say stupid, at times.
Do correct me if the facts were wrong, it’s been a long while since ive read it, an more recent studies could contradict what i have read from an entertaining book that was published probably more than ten to twenty years ago at this point.
