It’s not just that kind of age, or else we’d all be fine with 1000 yr old anime girls who look and act like they’re five. There’s also mental / emotional age and maturity. He certainly doesn’t act two, although, I wouldn’t say he’s definitely an adult mentally.
Personally, this does save it for me, but would it have killed them to have just made him present as a kid from the get go? Would’ve saved a lot of grief.
