She NEVER met her mother….and her mother didn’t want a girl. She was just like her father, Duke Stoke. Not a good person. I mean, she was a 15 year old that came up with the idea of marrying a 13 year old and immediately tried to have a child with him to get her family in power. If that immoral woman was alive, Blanche would be more invisible than now and maybe even married at this point. I have a terrible opinion of that woman.

What if Blanche’s melancholy here is being misinterpreted as ‘missing her mother’ and is actually ‘My father looks terrified in this image and I’m only a year or so different in age, could I be made to have a child any day now if not for Abigail?’ – Heck it’d even fit with her push for a sibling, partially for the affection and desire to spoil a little brother or sister and fully tying Abigail to her family but a sibling would lessen the political immediacy of needing to marry her off and continue the imperial line. We are being shown in this chapter she is capable of mature and complex thought lines.

Dude is also a child! But because of mystical Magicka sciencey stuff, he looks like this while in the mirror. There’s hints to it through out the novel, but it’s been subtly brought up by Abigail here. When she gave him clothes she comments on how sometimes his actions are like that of a child.
