The upside is: only the translations of chapter 1 and (even more so) chapter 2 are bad, after that it gets a lot better.
The downside: the story does NOT get much better though, unfortunately.
Even the art deteriorates after a while (different artist I suppose?). Although the coloring stays nice, the faces get weird, especially of all the side characters. The dresses are somewhat cute though.
Sadly I cannot find anything likeable about the female lead. I get that she’s confused after getting thrown into a “novel” that also has a system talking to her that looks like a cute mascot, and then she even sees system windows floating around… But she doesn’t really act like a confused person, rather like a brainless one 🙁
The female lead mainly tries to somehow wind her way out of every situation and even sucks up to her evil stepmother for this purpose. Later on she changes her ways though, which is not really plausible, and she becomes more aloof and blunt, but she does not really put in any work, like trying to secure evidence…
The white-haired villain from the cover is of course the male lead, even though there are other men in this story too, but they don’t really stand a chance. The male lead is overly rude and actually extremely disagreeable.
This villain is supposed to really dislike women because of his sad childhood, but of course gets totally interested in the female lead immediately without any comprehensible good reason. He also acts like he could get away with literally everything evil he does and says. And weirdly enough, there are actually no bad consequences for his whims so far.
If you ask me, there’s not even one personalbe character in this whole story; but you might have a different opinion? Even the antagonists are mostly idiotic and their scheming is transparent as well as careless.
I also dislike that the female lead has such a cliché random background story – bad parents, no love life, and even death from overwork during desk work. She has basically no special skills or even interests, just a bit of a commercial qualification that she tries to put to use clumsily…
The story of our female lead is of course completely different from the original “novel”, and the system is absolutely useless except for giving some background information; it even asks the female lead if she wants to accept or refuse “missions” (whysoever this story even nees missions is beyond me), but then won’t take no for an answer. This is not funny, it’s just stupid.
Later on, the female lead gets more freedom because she’s conveniently “accepted” as being a bug in the system (wasn’t it a NOVEL, not a game?) that can now freely change the story… Such a chaotic and lazy storywriting!
In the beginning there’s a notation that could easily be the motto for the plot of this whole manhua: “For the sake of logic, the events in the original story are not detailled.” Just ignoring all the details that don’t fit together or often don’t even make sense won’t make any event more “logical” though 😛
