In my opinion, I feel like the father is most at fault. The brothers are hideous and they’re jerks, but I can see where their resentment comes from. The father decided to cheat on his wife and had a child with another woman and even took the child into the same house shamelessly. It doesn’t matter if he didn’t love his current wife, it’s still a douchey thing to do. And I think the relationship would’ve been a little less malicious if he just properly took care of his kids and gave equal attention to all of them. I’m just trying to reason with the brothers, who I dislike.
I will make a couple points.
Imagine your father cheating on your mother, who you thought he loved, and brought in a child he had with her and ultimately gave all his attention and love to that child rather than his own legitimate children and not only that, the child is better than you in all aspects. Obviously the hostility they have for the ml is undeserved, and the brothers clearly have some inferiority complex causing them to act rashly. Or I’m just looking too much into this and they’re just greedy immature fools ?♂️

I can see that the father does love the ML, very likely more than his legitimate sons but the part where he hired all the servants with names similar to the shade of blue just didn’t make any sense….
Like how does one convey a sense of caring by doing that?

I don’t think it was about caring for his son, it’s more about the status of the Dukedom with the blue eyes. He does love and respects the ML far, far more than his sons. I suspect that the reason he favors the ML is exactly as he had stated, that son doesn’t rely on his father for anything while his brothers are probably all kinds of screw-ups that need “Daddy” to fix their mistakes. I also suspect that he didn’t love the mother of his other legitimate children but truly loved the mother of the ML.

It means that even though he couldn’t give him blue eyes or hair, he found a way to associate him with blue (which is the symbolic color of the family). It’s supposed to show outsiders that the father recognized Jellard as a legitimate child.
