Yeah, I think we can all agree the Duke’s actions are trashy as hell. Even if the Duke and his wife split up before the youngest son was born, the blatant favoritism is crappy behavior. But the sons are all grown up now and still acting like this. Plus the two legitimate sons seem to be nasty people and not even loyal to eachother. I won’t have too much sympathy for them.
Also – its seems strange that Jellard is being so considerate to the FL when he literally abducted his previous lover…

I find alot of this is circumstantial and will depend on things we may learn later. At this point we don’t know what the relationship between the Duke and the legitimate sons’ mother was, whether it was an arranged marriage, marriage with ‘arrangements’, divorce, death or straight up NTR. Any or all of those change how the Duke would be viewed in his relationship with Jelly’s mom. However, it is very likely even if there was some level of marital consent to his actions *be it through death or otherwise * the legitimate sons didn’t like their dad harrying off with someone else. As we have seen stated he prides in Meritocracy the difference in simping of his 3 sons is as likely a direct result of that more than anything because while it seems he has not denied his legitimate sons anything he also is clearly disappointed in their reliance on him and their name over producing results. I don’t find Jelly’s consideration strange he is basically a lead with Yandere tendencies. As of this point and time the fox ran straight into his backyard and built a den he hasn’t needed to trap it to keep it. It’s when the contract runs up/out you’d see the will of someone who would feel the need to ‘capture’ their lover.

Jellard’s half-brothers aren’t exactly wrong with the hate they bare towards him and their father.
The duke abandoned his family; his wife and two sons for a mistress and had a child with that women. That can end up being a VERY stressful and even traumatic experience for anybody if they found out one of their family member was a cheater. It can affect people in so many ways, especially mentally in regards to always questioning whether they’re good enough for others or not, if they can they trust others, will they be able to forgive others as easily…
Seeing this chapter made it very clear that the duke clearly sees no fault in his actions, if anything, he seems proud of having cheated on his wife for a “better” son, not caring at all about his other two and older son’s happiness and wellbeing.
