I think what happened in their past life isn’t really what it seems. Just my opinion, from the past chapters the emperor said that he chose to keep the mistress by his side cuz she was also two-faced like him or has some hidden agenda compared to our fl who’s a sucker for the ml in her past life. Considering that the ml may have thought that the mistress was more useful for connections or something like that compared to the past fl.
But since the fl has changed to a somewhat strong attitude maybe that also caused his attention to turn to fl instead of the mistress….
