@sneezles Eveything he said however is mooted by his own family situation. The Duke forgot that *he* failed Richard in exactly all the things he accused Erno of. Richard was at an orphanage (and for far longer than MC was). Nobody knew Richard’s real identity, so clearly something was wrong with accessing birth certificates. Sure he lost his son to an accident, but arguably the same can be said of MC, who was fucked with by an evil maid.
Most importantly, whereas Richard was brought back home *kinda against his will* purely because MC knows plot and not because the duke was able to find him, Erno actually *found* the MC and she went home willingly.
From what the duke has access to knowing, he has literally no right to say he is a better father than Erno.
Obvs Eirin’s choice should be top priority, but think of it from richard dad’s pov:
He is a loving father who had his son kidnapped, and desperately looked for him for years. One day, a girl informed him of his son’s whereabouts, and the son also cherishes the girl and treats her like a sibling. At this point, he feels grateful and indebted to her, and willing to take her in because more than her reuniting them, she is also a helpless kid with no one to take care of her (at the time). He exercised reasonable diligence to ascertain her identity. Who is she? She doesn’t have a birth certificate, and she herself never told about her true identity. What is he supposed to presume other than her original family didn’t care about her and abandoned her. They did not bother creating a birth certificate for her, and her not mentioning them means she does not expect any one looking for her = unloving household. So he decides to adopt her since it’s a win-win: his son is happy, and he would be able to take care of an abandoned child (as it appeared). I get asking for Erin’s opinion and permission throughout all of this but note that she DID disappear at the time, and purple dad was desperately looking for her. While looking for her, he decided to adopt her so he can also fully utilize resources of the duchy to find her since she is now a member of the family. All of what he did is, to his mind, to protect her. It’s not like he knew that she had a family looking for her as well? All he knows from what she said and her circumstances is that she was an abandoned child with no one to turn to, and she had gone missing near a an auction arena for kidnapped kids.
If anything, it’s Erno that’s unreasonable. All of this could have been resolved quicker if he simply went up and just told purple dad “uh hey so thats kinda my kid, i know she dont have birth cert and u had no way of knowing she was my kiddo, its complicated but long story short me and the kid are goods now and ill adopt her so could you rescind your adoption?” but no he drags it out randomly sending assassins exposing the ducal household to danger, made multiple attempts at the dukes life and it is only now that he explains. No shit the duke would be angry. Like why go all do that when he couldve explained like this in the first place? No wonder he thinks Erno wouldnt be fitting as a dad. I mean, it was only recently too that he actually saw Eirin as his daughter and not a pet/doll didnt he?
This became a long comment, lol. But tldr nothing of what purple duke said was wrong, based on what he knows. Us readers know otherwise but to him Erno is just an irresponsible dad who may not be for Eirin’s best interests.
@jbmb73, I think you misunderstood. Read the positioning of names and “pet and owner” statement. He is calling Eirin the owner there lol! Also, I agree with the purple haired dude. Duke Etam was playing around in the start, so that was like hitting the bullseye.
This is just going to stay complicated and… I don’t know but I think he’s right, he will be a better father for Eirin, but the thing is ask the KID what she wants and STOP fighting with each other

Welllll technically purple duke is wrong, cause duke etam just recently got to know FL, and then when they were about to get closer to each other, FL still doubts because she knows who the og fl is, so she doesn’t fully trust anyone… and when she got scared of their grandpa… she misunderstood her father’s(duke etam) action…. And when she ran away… ofcourse duke etam doesn’t have time to process her adoption, cause he’s busy finding her, cuz her safety is important…. And now he found her and was gonna process the adoption…. Then duke purple hair ruins it cause he filed for adoption even without FL acknowledgement….
And clearly FL wants to be adopted by her original fam(duke etam family)
