Hurt people hurt people is what it boils down to plus he has a habit of avoiding confrontation of any sort by throwing himself into work so imagine how immense the grief would be if your wife died giving birth to a carbon copy of herself he wouldn’t be able to look at Elsa and not to say it was right but that’s what happens to people and to have to secure the Duchy by quickly filling the position of Duchess he’d have no choice but to participate in a political marriage.
