Maria….why would Bianca be afraid of losing Ricardo to you? Did you mean you coveted her relationship? Did you mean you wanted your friend’s man? And you don’t see something wrong with your jealousy?

Maria’s character is badly written.
Is this supposed to be the “power” of the “original work”? But if so: how bottomlessly brainless can an “original heroine” of a novel get?
Wasn’t she supposed to be totally clever? Enough to learn everything a “proper lady” needs to know quickly and to then master all kinds of challenges while moving upwards in high society?
How can such a character mentally degrade like that – being fixated on hating a helpful female friend who has the least motives for murder, while being surrounded by people like a stepmother who has even bullied her before (!) and others who have actual reasons to want her biological mother gone?
“Why would she kill my mom?” OMG. Head empty, no thoughts. She can’t think of any one else that would want to isolate her? No? Just go to the dumbest choice? OK.
