maids of the imperial family are themselves extremely high-born. you can’t just kill them off without someone with a lot of money and power getting pissed at you. the author has no clue how an imperial court actually works and it’s so annoying to watch all these two dimensional moron bad guys somehow not get caught because they have plot armor. it’s not even satisfying to beat them because they’re just so very very bad at being a threat. they aren’t cunning or particularly strong or anything, they’re just evil and protected by the author who needs a convenient bad guy. that’s not a villain, that’s a puppet.
