Well he is testing her after a past of hard time caused by her. He is getting to know the “new” her, getting interested in her, so he sees a new light he doesn’t trust nor understand. It might be frustrating but it is reallstic. 10 years is a long time to think you know a person.
I mean she knows the future in terms of the main character but I doubt she knows like where a gold mine is hidden waiting to be found or something. If she didn’t wanna pay that type of extortion means she can’t afford or the family likely can’t.
if she know the future bcuz she knows the novel , would be easier accept the deal ? Well if was me i would find a way to get rid of him , one way or another lol
