you’d really think by virtue of them all being chosen for this mega-prestigious debut venue and given the full support of the imperial family that all of them would have the good sense to know making enemies here is fucking stupid. everyone there is bound to marry well. even if their family has little power right now doesn’t mean you’re not making a dangerous enemy of them. this one feels contrived. sure little kids are catty but their parents would have beaten it into their heads not to talk shit to someone’s face in the imperial palace. they’d talk shit behind people’s backs with their friends over tea for sure.
