Read manhwa If You Want a Cheeky Sorceress / 발칙한 요녀를 원하신다면
Betrayed by her fiancé and friend, Roxiana Franche lost her family and was reduced from a princess to a slave. As she was being sold, branded as a slave, an unexpected salvation came in the form of a tiger-like man, appearing amidst flames. “Princess, you just eat well, sleep well, and live well in this comfortable, luxurious palace.” I pleaded to be allowed to die, even offering to become a wicked temptress, but… “Yes, Princess. Even bite off my finger and chew it. You need to eat and swallow something to even stand up to my mockery.” Why do you keep trying to save me?

Don’t be fooled by the title.
This – at least very nicely drawn – manhwa starts off with brutal and traumatizing events for the female lead which last several chapters, and we don’t get to see any magic from her for quite a while either.
The fl experiences betrayal (a very cliché one too: by her best female friend who she once saved, and her unimaginably horrible royal fiancé) that actually does not make much sense – other that the traitors are simply super evil, as are some more people in this manhwa.
Her whole family gets killed, she gets kidnapped and treated like an animal for several days, branded as a slave, starved, and stuffed into a dark barrel for shipping.
Usually female leads would rewind time from this point on and save everyone…
Not this one though. Sadly the female lead has to go through it all – and even after she’s saved by the male lead (who uselessly dramatically causes a magic fire rampage caused by shock when he finds her) she only wants to die and is deeply depressed for several days, while advisors of the male lead want her gone because they are afraid of her ex-fiancé who’s now king/emperor…
The female lead is merely a victim-character without anything she can do other than survive, but just judging by not being able to see through the super-obvious evilness of her betrothed and her girl-frenemy, the fl doesn’t exactly seem smart so far.
The male lead is nice though, and he has dark red hair by way of variation; but he’s also a grand duke *sigh* and battle-seasoned *double-sigh* lord of a somehow independent territory as well.
There’s nearly nothing unique so far in this story, not even the monsters that play minor parts so far, except for some weird religious beliefs about the afterlife, which are ruined by the artist who combines this novelty with images of Christian crosses and nuns 🙁
The only reason I could name for reading this manhwa is the fine artwork.
