There’s nothing saying that they aren’t aware of it. Knowing the reason and the truth doesn’t change what has happened, their daughters or fiancées going out and being intimate with another man, even allegedly, can destroy someone’s reputation. So they likely realized that it is easier to submit to the tyrant so call off his dog and at least try and save face
