The emperor doesn’t have any concubines,the empress is his only wife and those are their children. He’s the type of harsh on the outside but melts and shy in front of the Empress, he has a weakness for the her and listens to her and supports her. And he is far from being a bad character.
In FL’s words in the novel, he had never acted badly until the one time he met FL for the first time. That was the only cold incident. He treats her normally and with some subtle affection soon after, kind of a tsundere who can’t lie to his wife about how cute he finds his daughter.
He was only cold that night because the empress’ birth was extremely difficult but when he said that FL was useless, he didn’t mean it. And he comforted the empress all night long that night.
The empress was also upset that FL was born,but she hid it better than her husband, but not because they hate FL or anything, it’s just that giving birth to a girl is a curse as she’s set to die soon and that pains them.
In the original novel, the empress suffered physically and mentally from looking at Isabelle and died young, which destroyed the emperor who barely survived, as he stopped eating and drinking,
only crying as his world was empty without her, before he was killed off by ML and the empire falls,
it’s different in this timeline of course.
