Forget about crown prince kill this villian first

Honestly, when facing the bad guy, it’s ok to lie sometimes. It’s ok to be a bit devious.
All Liri had to do to win is to sow the seeds of mistrust then and there. A simple lie –
“Your majesty, I can sense a curse of black magic on you. Someone is using contact with you to drain your son’s life force.”
That is all it would take. The Empress loves and dotes on her son. If she accuses the Black Magician he is harming the Crown Prince, she would cut him off immediately.
She can even make up some nonsense about how the Crown Prince has been targeted (he nearly died from monsters occurring unnaturally at the hunting tournament) and he has had wild mood swings towards her, which is definitely proof of Black Magic that she read once in a book (lie).
A shame she isn’t more devious.
