Edith fully thought Killeon was going to execute her as he walked towards her but obviously that did not happen.
The line that the Duke says “What is Edith “Rudwik” doing there” is actually said by Killeon, it’s a shame, the scene was quite cathartic in the novel.

I think in the novel things happened with a little more drama, and it’s much clearer that Edith accepted her death at Killian’s hands, because I think that was the condition, that she accepted to die at his hands. She thought that if she was going to die it was okay that it was at his hands, but he obviously wasn’t going to kill her.
