Here she looks just like a regular nobel lady on vacation. Novel describes her having a lot of bruises, no fancy dress and only bag with 2 hot potato in it..
I know she has no other choice because she thinks no one will believe her but running away makes her look even more guilty 😭 especially with the maid’s fake testimony/lie
It is not like anything she says can clear her name since they have always suspected her. Most of the people searching for her have be intentions. Why would she go back home after realize that those 2 are the ones that have been trying to frame her all along? Her husband being good to her.
If I were in her place I would do the same too. Lize who is everyone’s favorite directly accused her. So it’s natural for her to think that Killian will obviously trust Lize over her
i’m a little pessimistic where i don’t think they’ll be able to expose reeze explicitly… that she’ll only be confronted in the author chair. but in world, she’s definitely going to chew her nails to the bit because if she’s locked up, she can’t keep recruiting secondary characters, and the people she did recruit are falling like dominoes.

Edith has never been given the benefit of the doubt even one time for situations far less serious and with far fewer people trying to frame her. I don’t blame her at all for running.

At the moment she has no reason to believe that anyone would be on her side when Lize is blatantly accusing her of treason. She doesn’t know that Killian is doubting Lize, everyone in the novel acted as if Lize hung the moon & stars and even out of the novel, every other person around Lize has either been her biggest fan or wants to possess her. Edith herself probably would have believed Lize if she weren’t the one being accused.
