According to the novel, Edith would eventually escape because Cliff didn’t even bother looking for her eventhough she was in the basement. Edith met a nice couple who helped her back to the capital, she then rented a room to stay and had a really bad fever, which she had to went through all by herself. She then decided to leave this place forever and bought some necessities for the journey, but everytime the ship came, she hesititated and made excuses to herself so she would not leave. She then thought of Killian, thinking that the only way for him to have a happy ending with someone he loves is by her dying by his hand, so when the guards found her (because she was wanted but no one regconized her because her face was badly injured) she willingly went back. All this and Killian was searching for her everywhere, found the basement in which she was tortured by Sophia and quickly went back to the capital. He then defended her and instead of being executed by the Rudwicks, she was only brought to the dungeon where Lizard played her last card trying to frame Edith for trying to kill her. This is when Edith knew Lize is the author. Luckily Killian came and saved Edith

I knew Reeze was the author a long time ago since I read the novel and I also knew what was about to comes,but seeing this part in adaptation,I feel much worse that what I’d read in the novel.The memories reflected in Edith’s mind shows how betrayed she must have felt by Reeze’s actions.I just want to skip to the part where Edith and Killian can live happily and peacefully and where Reeze will reap what she sowed.
