They seriously toned it down from in the novel she was getting tutored and nearly got raped before cliff came and rescued everyone but her
@Goaties that’s because the author change that part, they were supoused to be 2 mercenaries with no tragic past, they weren’t good (they talked about sa her)but they felt bat for ruby after seeing her all beaten up (in the novel she was already pretty bad by this point) and learning that that it was his family doing all this and that Sophia was just a maid with a big ego who liked to boss them around, so they do the same with ropes like this merc does, and Edith gave them her ruby necklace in exchange for the help and told them to run away.
And if you still think it make no sense and she convinced them too easy, it’s because all this situation it’s related to something the author inside the story says in chapter 57, so go check it out

In fact, I had forgotten that this situation had already happened there, so I’m now even more disappointed that it’s just exactly the same thing again.
If the merc(s) were mistreated by the maid or family, I’d absolutely get why they might let Edith go.
As it is, just a bit of a lame result here…

No intelligence or wits involved; just got lucky and they hired the worst kidnapper in the country?
If that’s how she gets away, that is such a massive letdown for this story…

Here, unfortunately, it was important that it went a certain way. Maybe they’ll fix it another way to make certain things happen
For me, in this episode, the change of story based from the novel to the manga is still okay. However, the beatings of Edith is a very important aspect that will be used to further dramatized the next chapters. In the novel Sophia beat Edith so harshly to the point of leaving her to die with an almost unrecognizable face and aching body wherein she suffered fever and was immobilized for some days. That part in the novel is one of the tear-jecking parts which made this novel popular. The beatings Edith received here in the manga version is light for me that now I’m worrying how the story will turn out in the next chapters.
What i hate about Edith is she forgives Reeze without any resentmentlike Reeze had no choice to do these but she never felt that why should she suffers all these just for someone fun?
What part of Edith’s life is Sophia jealous of exactly…? She knows better than anyone how cruelly Edith was treated. How badly she was beaten. How desperately she had to claw for even a morsel of care.
one of the reasons why in the novel this part felt really sad and dramatic was that she was treated worse, she was gratefull but also scared of the mercenary that helped her, she was beaten with a horse whip and her face was swollen from her brother an sophias beating, also I think she argued more with sophia( it was like talking to a wall but it was also satisfying) I apreciate that the violence was toned down but I hope they keep the drama and the pain that Edith felt in all of these because for me it made the ending so worth it
