I’ve read comments about people getting mad at Ripley for refusing the duke tho he didnt cheat and being sincere to her. Well, Its about the person who was written to be with whom. She really didn’t want to interrupt the plot, let alone the ml when he supposed to be with fl aka Etoile since she learnt it from hard way by being the victim of the situation in her real life

The original plot was the fl and ml, not ml and her. She suffocated from the bully and misunderstanding and she was standing alone. Anyone would break being in that situation, and as for her she had trauma. She took it maybe to hard for herself to not wanting to ruin the destined partner ml and fl of the novel.
As someone who went thru some kind of trauma caused of some “friends” i would understand where her action and decision came from. She even torn apart and conflicted against herself
