if she wasn’t traumatazied and was in a clearer state of mind, her takeaway from that situation would have been to communicate the circumstances immediately with her friend and not assume. which, she’s actually doing in a round-about way here. it’s just that neither of the two she’s spoken to like the other and so she now needs to listen to them and stop assuming she knows what’s best for them 🙃
tbh if I read a story where my bestie ended up in a relationship with someone obsessed with simply owning, no love really involved on his part, I’d be steerinh her clear of him IMMEDIATELY. this whole situation is borne from her naive and inexperienced (read as CHILDISH tbh) view of relationships and love. but oh well, it really takes experiencing it urself to understand these things

I’ve read comments about people getting mad at Ripley for refusing the duke tho he didnt cheat and being sincere to her. Well, Its about the person who was written to be with whom. She really didn’t want to interrupt the plot, let alone the ml when he supposed to be with fl aka Etoile since she learnt it from hard way by being the victim of the situation in her real life
The original plot was the fl and ml, not ml and her. She suffocated from the bully and misunderstanding and she was standing alone. Anyone would break being in that situation, and as for her she had trauma. She took it maybe to hard for herself to not wanting to ruin the destined partner ml and fl of the novel.
As someone who went thru some kind of trauma caused of some “friends” i would understand where her action and decision came from. She even torn apart and conflicted against herself
