I think the problem here is that it’s not JUST about saving his life, it’s also about getting him “the happy ending”. In her mind, that includes becoming King and she doesn’t know that the saintess thing was a set up from the beginning to give Onyx the throne because of the curse. She’s not just trying to save his life, she’s trying to give him the life she thinks he deserves/wants.
