Levelheaded is needed… , he is too good are his job… but fails to see anything beyond.
If anything, (and I wonder if any politician reasons are involved), Fleta should have been killed from birth…. This is heartless, but we readers and our Fl know the severe dangers she poses.

His characterisation doesn’t make much sense to me. They’re painting him as someone who’s more inclined to be a calculative and greedy ruler than a warm, loving, family man. If that was true he should’ve gotten rid of Fleta quietly way earlier(by unaliving the child or by sending her to the grand duchy as soon as she was born. Either way the disaster will no longer be his Empire’s concern). Even if he didn’t do it at the beginning because of his ?feelings for the consort, he’d have done it a few months or years later given his callous, slimy two-faced nature. But he didn’t even plan to send her away(going by the first timeline)… What was he planning on doing with the kid? Was he waiting for her to starve to death in some corner? Or was he waiting for her to reach the minimum age for marriage so he can send her away and wait for her to summon the disaster, destroy that country, send help and later swallow that land once it’s weakened?? I can’t think of a good reason for him to keep the clicking timebomb around just to isolate and abuse her, giving her more reason to detonate and destroy his land…
That’s because it’s badly written.
Yes, it makes no sense. He could literally have sent the child back to her home nation when she was born, and cite it as the last wish of the consort. Zero effort, zero hassle for him.
The ONLY reason no one did anything logical about it is because plot needs it.
