MY READING HISTORY
You don't have anything in histories
Mandragora
Women couldn’t inherit in many countries for a long time. They usually had to have a male relative legally gain their inheritance and have to trust he would give them the funds they needed to survive.
Noble women had very few jobs they were socially allowed to have. They could be governesses/personal teachers and companions for other wealthy women. (Yes, companion was an actual job) and anything else was considered vulgar for them.
If they wrote or painted to earn money, they had to use a fake name or fall into scandal.
Mary Shelley was a rare example of a woman who published in her own name despite her rank. She was such a badass. She also married whoever she wanted and defied social normals when they didn’t suit her. So cool.

They need to change the law. Just because you’re an aristocrat, doesn’t mean you couldn’t work even if you’re a woman. Woman isn’t a breeding machine and accessories for men, they should change it and give more privileges to women. Can’t earn money? The fuck with that rule?!

That rule applied to both men and women of the aristocracy. Earning a living wage was seen as beneath the station of a noble. Historically in Britain, a lot of aristocracy went bankrupt and they would marry their sons to the rich daughters of American oil tycoons. However, (in the story) in the woman’s case since they weren’t head of the households they don’t seem to have any assets distributed to them like their male counterpart would, so it is unfair.
