@HoneyToast at first it is a bit annoying but you get used to it. Physical appearance is a huge part in the way humans perceive each other. When you meet someone new the first thing you’d notice is they’re appearance, its natural. And then later on you learn their personality. Since that first impression can be influenced by looks, its natural that if an artist wanted you to have negative feelings towards a character they would make them physically “unappealing” (putting it in quotation marks because that’s different for everyone and in my opinion no one is ugly its just the society we were raised in taught us to favor a certain appearance over another)
I’m not picking on this novel alone but it always bothers me when the villains and lackeys are physically ugly also. Winning the genetic lottery doesn’t mean you’re a good person and not fitting beauty standards doesn’t make you “evil”. Why go out of your way to make them ugly and deformed? Just make them normal!
