From what I’ve read, usually titles are passed via dying or when the current title holder willingly passes it onto the next. Since the duke is a asshole who seeks to control his own son by using his granddaughter as a hostage, he’d more than likely would never hand over his title until he dies or when his son finally gives in completely. Think something like how emperors in some stories tend to be so power obsessed, they will try to gain more power and/or try to extend their life so they can be in their position forever. The duke seems to be the kind of person who’d rather live forever as a duke instead of die with his title going to a son who doesn’t behave the same as him.
So if it’s been 20 years her dad was 18 when she was born so that means he’s 38 and her asshole grandpa would be in his early to mid-sixties. So how the hell after 20 years is her dad still not the Duke?
